Homemade Trail Mix Recipe

Homemade Trail Mix Recipe

Oct 29, 2019Food

Hey Friend,

Our family loves being outdoors, whether we’re riding bikes, canoeing in a lake, or enjoying a picnic…we just love the feeling of fresh air.

In most cases I always pack us a pretty full bag of healthy snacks and infused water or if I’m feeling fancy, some herbal teas. One of my favorite snacks to include has always been trail mixes, and even more lately has been homemade trail mix.

Trail mixes can range from super nutty to super fruity and in some cases, super chocolatey. The thing I love about making my own trail mix is, obviously, getting to choose how much of what goes into the jar. As a rule of thumb, I like to include a few of each of the following in my homemade mixes to have a perfectly balanced trail mix!

Nuts giving me protein, fiber, antioxidants & yes, healthy fats as well as other vitamins and minerals.

Seeds also giving me the above as well as omega-3s including alpha-linolenic acid, lignin’s, and other vitamins and minerals

Dried Fruits great source of antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and other minerals

Sweets to help sweeten my mix up a bit I added cacao nibs but they are also packed with nutrients such as vitamin c, antioxidants, iron and other minerals.

When it comes to storage, my go to will always be the Infinity Jars due to their heavy durable ultraviolet glass. Not only do my nuts stay safe from going rancid and spoiling, these jars are just absoulutly stunning and make an amazing gift if you plan on giving these trail mixes as holiday gifts. I love making oily DIYs in their smaller containers, because once again the glass helps to prevent sunlight getting in and damaging the oils. Whne compared to amber and clear jars, the Infinity Jars were able to keep their contents fresher & less damaged for a much longer period of time.

Today I am using the 250 mL glass screw top jar for our nut mixture & it’s the perfect size for us. I also love to place our mixtures into our stasher bags when we are out on hikes just to ensure no glass breaks.
